Unsung Heroes Award
This award is for members of NAMME at the national and regional levels who provide tireless, dedicated service to NAMME under the shadow of visible NAMME leadership. They demonstrate their commitment to NAMME by carrying out logistics associated with making the organization and its meeting/conferences efficient and effective. They do not usually receive-nor do they expect-public fanfare or recognition for their efforts, but are motivated and inspired by the fact that they have made small, but important and necessary contributions that promote NAMME’s mission, programs and activities. In essence, they are those members in particular who make the NAMME “body” or organization function well. There are no educational restrictions for the award. However, selected recipients must be a member of NAMME.
Emerging Leadership Award
This award is for the new members of NAMME (ages 21 through 40) who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and dedication to the mission of NAMME, its programs and activities. They fully embrace NAMME through their work and commitment to organization, and by attracting other leaders to join the NAMME membership ranks at the regional and national levels. They are a strong recognized “voice” on the current issues being addressed at the state and national levels that impact NAMME (i.e. federal and state budget cuts and public policy that negatively impact NAMME’S mission, lack of university/school commitment to diversity in the health professions, etc). They exude energy, enthusiasm and clarity in both their presentation and writings about NAMME as well as their general appeal to the publics they encounter on the need to end disparities in the representation of minorities and disadvantaged students and minority practitioners in the health sciences. Finally, they bring vision to the future sustainability of NAMME as a viable, thriving organization, and how the can contribute to NAMME’s future in a leadership role.
